Colophon

Whenever I stop and reflect on the nature of web design I realize how much I dislike the inflexible nature of modern trends on the web.

My downfall seems to be my easily swayed styles of the current moment. My laodicean updating tendency further reduces my delight in the design of my own site and causes me to want to change it around frequently. The constraints of a family and a job keep that from becoming a feasible reality, so a better solution has to be found. This current, and hopefully stable, iteration of this web site is seemingly simple in design, almost stoically academic in nature, rigid in its form and function. It provides a stable style-indifferent way of presenting different types of information side by side. I hope.

About Me

I work in higher education. I am happily married to a woman who is much better looking than I am. I have been blessed with an adorably cute son. I have been in IT professionally for over 10 years now, but have loved computers for most of my life. I have always liked graphic design though my red/green color blindness holds me back. My favorite song is Prelude from sonata number 5 by Corelli.

Publishing

Yes this is a tumblr blog. Previous versions have used Textpattern, bloxum, nateobjects (my own little php content assembler), and wordpress. I have found Textpattern to work best if you have good dedicated hosting. Your mileage may vary.

Design

Hand coded in TextEdit and Notepad. The few graphics that exist here were created with Photoshop.

Mac/Windows Fanboy Status

My current home and weekend machine is a 15-inch MacBook Pro. My previous computer was a first generation 15-MacBook Pro which finally succumbed to slowness, a failing hard drive, battery and screen. Before that was my trusty 15-inch Powerbook Pismo. I still say the ability to replace a CD/DVD drive with a battery is cool.

My current setup at work is two HP 8100 SFF business class machines. One is running Windows 7 and the other Server 2008R2 Core with multiple test Hyper-V machines. Most of the time though I can be found on my aged HP laptop running 2008R2 server.

I consider myself neither a Windows or MacOS pundit. I choose Mac at home because I want to draw a clear distinction between my work and personal life. If my job revolved around managing Macintosh machines I would have Windows at home. It is a work-life balance issue.
